Public Vanpool Services
Vanpool is a form of transportation in which TACK provides a vehicle to a group of individuals who ride to and from a destination together. Usually, this is transportation to and from a business or job.
An example of a vanpool is a group of 7 or more people meet at the same location each day at the same time. They board a vehicle provided by TACK and one of the people serves as the driver. The group goes to their workplace, park the vehicle, and start their workday. At the end of the day, those same people get back on the TACK vehicle, and the same person serving as driver, drives them back to their original starting point.
The advantage of a vanpool is that TACK pays for gas, vehicle insurance and vehicle maintenance such as tires and oil changes.
Vanpools are open to the public.
If no vanpool currently exists that would fit your needs, it may be possible to create a new vanpool to suite your needs. Please note that a vanpool requires a minimum of 5 riders. One driver and one backup driver are required for each vanpool. Drivers and backup drivers must meet TACK requirements. Vanpool routes must be 100 miles or less each way.
Drivers and backup drivers receive a discounted fare rate based upon the number of riders. Drivers are encouraged to recruit other riders to join the vanpool, as this reduces the fare rate for all riders.
Vanpool Fares
Fare per rider by mileage and number of riders enrolled to the vanpool:
$ per rider / per month / per mileage of the vanpool route (each way)
Miles (each way) | 5 riders ($ per rider) |
6 riders ($ per rider) |
7 (or more) riders ($ per rider) |
---|---|---|---|
0-25 | 175 | 150 | 125 |
26-50 | 200 | 175 | 150 |
51-75 | 225 | 200 | 175 |
76-100 (100 max) | 250 | 225 | 200 |
Minimum 5 riders per vanpool. New van pools must have 5 riders (including driver) to begin. Any vanpool that falls below 5 riders will have 45 days to recruit additional riders to bring the number back up to 5 our more paid riders.
Driver fare: The primary driver will be charged a discounted rate. *Subject to qualifying as a vanpool driver based upon the requirements set forth in the Vanpool Driver Agreement.
The driver will receive a $10 per rider (including themselves) discount to their monthly fare.
i.e., the driver of a route with 7 riders that travels 35 miles each way, per day, will receive a $10 per rider discount, which equals $70, which is discounted from the base fare rate of $150 per month. So the driver pays $80 per month.
Backup driver fare: approved backup drivers will be given a $5 per rider discount.
